Programs & Services

Mental Health Skill Building

Mental Health Skill Building services offers training and support to individuals 18 years of age and older, with significant functional limitations so that they can achieve and maintain community stability and independence in the least restrictive setting. We assist adults in building functional skills and appropriate behavior in relation to their health and safety, use of community resources, assistance with medication management (but will not administer medication), and monitoring their health, nutrition, and physical condition.

Services are geared towards improving:
  • Independent Activities of Daily Living Skills (IADLS)
  • Social/communication skills
  • Use of community resources
  • Medication management and compliance
  • Health, nutrition, and physical condition
  • Housing/independent living
  • Personal hygiene
Criteria for Mental Health Skill-Building Services:

Members qualifying for MHSS service shall demonstrate a clinical necessity for the service arising from a condition due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that results in significant functional impairments in major life activities. Services are provided to clients who require individualized training to achieve or maintain stability and independence in the community.

Must meet the following:

  • Qualifying Mental Health Diagnosis
  • Need for goal-directed training
  • Prior history of a qualifying higher level of care
  • Prior history of a qualifying prescription within the past 12 months

Crisis Stabilization

Crisis stabilization services are available for adults who are experiencing a mental health crisis and in need of short-term, intensive interventions. The goal of crisis stabilization services is to prevent hospitalization and to eliminate the mental health crisis, allowing the individual to resume their daily activities.

Critical Features of Community Stabilization include:
  • Recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally congruent, and developmentally appropriate provision of services, integrating the Zero Suicide/Suicide Safer Care principles
  • Assessment and screening, including explicit screening for suicidal or homicidal ideations.
  • Brief Therapeutic Interventions (by LMHP)
  • Skill building
  • Interventions to integrate natural supports in the de-escalation and stabilization of the crisis.
  • Health Literacy/Psychoeducation (by LMHP)
  • Crisis education and prevention planning and support
  • Engaging peer/natural and family support strengthen the individual’s participation and engagement in the plan.
  • Linkage and referral to ongoing services, supports and resources (example; housing, peer, chaplaincy) as appropriate and least restrictive level of care.
Criteria for Crisis Stabilization Services:

To qualify for Crisis Stabilization services, the individual must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Having trouble establishing and maintaining normal interpersonal relationships such that he or she risks being hospitalized for psychiatric reasons
  • Having trouble with activities of daily living like maintaining personal hygiene, preparing food and maintaining adequate nutrition, or managing finances to such a degree that health or safety are compromised
  • Experiencing a lack of cognitive ability to recognize personal danger or significant inappropriate behavior
